Kosh Karyalay was established by the Gujarat Vidyapith in 1929 at the suggestion of Mahatma Gandhi. At that time only the spelling of the words was provided by the Gujarat Vidyapith and the meaning of the words was not given in the Jodni Kosh. Then, according to the demand of the time, the second edition was prepared by Gujarat Vidyapith in 1931, adding meanings along with the words.
