The Department of Rural Studies, Gujarat Vidyapith, is committed to the holistic development of students in accordance with the ideals and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. The primary objective of the programme is to prepare socially responsible and competent graduates who can actively contribute to rural transformation and sustainable development.

The Bachelor of Rural Studies (BRS) is a full-time undergraduate programme designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of rural society, agriculture, natural resource management, rural governance, community development, and rural entrepreneurship. The programme integrates academic knowledge with field-based learning, enabling students to understand the realities, challenges, and opportunities of rural life.

The curriculum follows the principles of value-based education, mother-tongue instruction, experiential learning, and community engagement as envisaged in the National Education Policy (NEP). Through classroom teaching, village studies, fieldwork, internships, extension activities, and project work, students develop practical skills and a strong commitment to serving rural communities.

The Department actively promotes research, community outreach, and collaboration with government and non-government organizations to address rural development issues. It also provides opportunities for skill development, leadership training, and entrepreneurship, preparing graduates for higher education, employment, and meaningful participation in nation-building.

Supported by dedicated faculty members, alumni, and community partners, the Department of Rural Studies continues to nurture future leaders who uphold the values of self-reliance, social justice, sustainability, and rural empowerment.
