Gujarat Vidyapeeth is a deemed University established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920.  It has a Library with a collection of more than 500,000 titles.  It supports the University and also the general public in the city of Ahmedabad and people in Gujarat.  It is also a public library.  We are looking for a dynamic Librarian who is well qualified and has very good professional and leadership qualities.  She/he should also be a good teacher and a researcher.  The University has a post graduate teaching programme in Library Science. Applications in prescribed form are invited for the post of Librarian in the pay scale of Rs.16400-22400.  Deserving candidate will be offered higher start in the approved UGC scale for a Professor.  In case of senior persons, advance increments might be considered over and above protecting the current salary drawn.

 

Application form is available from the Central Office, Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad – 380014, on payment of Rs.50/- in cash or demand draft drawn in favour of “Registrar, Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Ahmedabad” alongwith a self-addressed and stamped envelop (23”x10”) worth Rs.5/-.  Application form can also be downloaded from the website www.gujaratvidyapith.org ; www.gujaratvidyapith.ac.in and the filled in application form should be sent to the Registrar with a demand draft in favour of “Registrar, Gujarat Vidyapeeth” for Rs.50/-.  Hard copies of application form duly filled should reach by registered post on or before 16th June, 2008 alongwith all certified copies.  Soft copy may be mailed at jobs@gujaratvidyapith.org

 

Minimum Qualification :

 

Librarian  (Rs.16400-22400) : (One post)

 

(i)         Master’s degree in Library Science/Information Science/documentation with at least 55% of the marks or its equivalent grade of B in the UGC seven point scale and consistently good academic record and quality publication.

(ii)        At least thirteen years as Deputy Librarian in a University Library or Eighteen years experience as a College  Librarian.

(iii)       Evidence of innovative Library service organization of published work.

 

Desirable:   M. Phil / Ph.D. degree in Library Science/Information Science/Documentation/Archives and manuscript keeping.

 

Note:

 

(1)        Candidates employed in Govt./Quasi Govt./Public Sector undertaking should forward their application through proper channel.

(2)        Knowledge of Hindi is essential and that of Gujarati is desirable.

(3)        Candidates called for interview will have to bring with them their original papers, degree certificates, etc. for verification.

(4)        Gujarat Vidyapeeth will be happy to reimburse shortest rail/bus travel expense upto IInd A.C.  and will provide accommodation to outstation candidates.

(5)        University reserves the right not to fill up the vacancy advertised.  The University also reserves the right to invite applications, interview and appoint qualified and deserving candidates.
